Any Soldier

We received the following email this week from one of our Any Soldier Chaplain contacts in Afghanistan. (Ed. Note: Chaplain Walker serves with the Presbyterian Church USA.)

"Hello everyone, I regret that due to my very busy war tempo that I cannot send each of you a personalized note, which is at my very heart to do! After all, it is you who have sent beautiful packages of awesome greeting cards, candy, crackers, cleaning items, books & magazines, newspapers of hometown America, and pictures of everyone packing up the boxes. As I am the Battalion Chaplain, I work quite hard at building unit fitness and morale, and I lead in the worship at our really beautiful chapel. Many of you have become known well to my staff as we break open your boxes twice a week! YOU are America! This to me is a boost as to why we go out the wire and do the Engineer mission, also know as route clearance missions. Whenever I have time, I will take a few pictures and send them to you. If you like, send me a reply and say hello. I am pleased to have spent the better part of the afternoon forwarding to our many troops stationed through the eastern part of Afghanistan YOUR wonderful gifts to them. I personally wish you well with God's blessing! Yes, please stay in touch sometime." Ch (CPT) Bryan Walker

We are always in need of funds for postage. If you would like to donate for that cause make checks payable to "FPC", use Special Offering Envelope in the pew rack and indicate "Any Soldier" on memo line. (Be sure to look at the bulletin board in the hallway to Community Rooms for new letters and pictures from our soldier contacts.) Thank you for your continued support of our military. Annual Toy March

Our Annual Toy March will be held during our church services on December 13th when we march to the Chancel steps with NEW and UNWRAPPED toys for Sussex County's neediest children. In fact, this may be the only toys these children receive on Christmas. On Dec. 15th & 16th People Help & the Sparta Ecumenical Council are distributing food bags to needy families and these parents are invited to pick the gifts you purchased for their children. Need is greatest for older children-things such as electronic "stuff", make-up and nail kits, sports and outdoor equipment - anything that Christ's love tells you to give is just fine. If you can't get out to shop, a check made out to "FPC" would also be appreciated & we will purchase toys. Use the Special Offering Envelope in the pew rack and put "Toy March" on the outside of the envelope. Contact Carole Bradley if you have any questions (663-2639).

Christmas Gift Bags

will be distributed to the needy on December 15th & 16th. Please remember as you do your grocery shopping between now and the above dates to put a few extra non-perishable items in your cart for this mission. We anticipate over 1000 families from Sussex County will be on the list to receive a basket this year and many more than that number of children for a gift. (We'll be collecting the gifts on December 13th when we have our Toy March-see Toy March article above). If you cannot bring food items, monetary donations are welcome also. Make checks payable to FPC, use the special offering envelopes from pew rack and indicate "Food Pantry".)

Children's Pageant

We are planning a CHILDREN'S PAGEANT for the 5:00 p.m. service on Christmas Eve. Rehearsals will be held on Sundays from 5:-00-6:00 p.m. (except Dec. 13th which will be 6:00-7:00 p.m. after the potluck dinner) in the Sanctuary for the older children and during Sunday School time for 3, 4, and 5 year olds. For further information contact Tracy Lacopo @ 973-948-7498.

Christmas Flowers & Greens

If you would like to make a donation toward the decorations of the Sanctuary for Christmas either in honor or memory of a loved one or friend, please make checks payable to "FPC" and be sure to use the special Christmas Greens Offering Envelope found in the pew racks. You may deposit them in the collection plate or bring to the Church Office. Be sure to include the wording you want in the bulletin. Deadline for inclusion in Christmas Eve bulletins is Friday, December 18th.
